DT Is Devoted To Documenting Significant Initiatives That Relate To Any And All Aspects Of Digital Textbooks, Most Notably Their Use In Higher Education
Knowledge Unlatched is a not for profit organisation based in the UK and operating globally. It is enabling open access books through a global library consortium that helps libraries to share the costs of high quality open access publishing, and to obtain print or premium digital versions of titles that they help to make open access at significant discounts. Our goal is to ensure that the total cost to libraries will always add up to less than purchasing books through the existing system.
Although we are dealing primarily with Humanities and Social Sciences monographs, this important and innovative project involves content that is relevant to graduate students. Being able to access monographs is also especially important to those writing textbooks.
Beginning in the second half of 2013, Knowledge Unlatched will run a comprehensive pilot of its consortium model. The pilot will include publishers from all around the world and several hundred libraries.
More information about the project can be found at: www.knowledgeunlatched.org
